okay...

so maybe I am going to have to change my goal. That's okay, right? Maybe I can say I will blog at least once a week because this every day thing is NOT happening.

So much has happened in the week that it is hard to update and get everything in without having a huge blog. So here goes:

Tuesday: Day off and spent the day cleaning, walking with Brett, hanging out at a coffee shop with Brett waiting for Game Stop to open so he could inquire into the newest Playstation thingee. While waiting, I discovered The Black Keys, an amazing group with lots of different sounds. So they are now on my iPod. Went on some work errands with Robby.

Wednesday: worked all day. I swear, every time I work all day, there are so many funny adventures at work. That's what I love about my job. Every day is so different.

Thursday: Worked in the morning, went on more work errands with Robby. He is working two jobs now and I don't really like it. He is always tired.

Friday: Worked in the afternoon and then went out to Thai food with Robby. Bought some new shoes (just as good of a high as smoking dope) and then came home and crashed.

Saturday: went to Ryan's dad's funeral. Very emotional and very long. Went to the mall with Emeli to get her some stuff and then went out to dinner at 10pm with the Murdock's. Robby worked from 6am until 10pm. Needless to say, when we got home, he crashed.

Sunday: slept in and just hung around the house.

Right now I am surfing the web and lounging before I have to run some errands and go to work this afternoon. Emeli and Brett are in charge of dinner because Robby is at work right now and when he gets off THAT job,he has to go help Jose dig holes and put up a huge sign for Richmond America. The poor man does not get any rest.

I wanted to punch Emeli on Saturday while we were grocery shopping. She turned to me and said, "Mom, I like it when Robby works two jobs." I gave her my stern, motherly sideways look and said, " I don't. He is gone all the time and he is always tired." Then Emeli realized what she had said and quickly corrected herself, "I don't like that he has to work all the time, but I like that we have a little more money and don't have to be so tight." I just looked at her again. Teenagers...

Monday

Today I did a treadmill test on a woman who is only a year older than me; however, she is much heavier than I am. She had a huge belly and weighed 254 pounds. I made a promise to myself after this test that I would NEVER allow myself to get that out of shape. On the treadmill test, the treadmill automatically raises the speed and the incline of the treadmill. She was walking at 1.5 mph with a 10% incline. She was doing okay and was huffing and puffing. At 2.5 mph, she was barely making it. After 1.5 minutes at 2.5 mph, she had to stop the treadmill. When I walk on the treadmill, I am usually walking at 4.1 mph. If I run, I like to run at about 4.7 or 4.9 mph. I know I am not in awesome shape, but I think I'm in okay shape. That was sobering to see her staggering at 2.5 mph after just 1.5 minutes. I don't work tomorrow and I am going to go hit the treadmill and I am going to make sure I keep in shape. That scared the hell out of me.

Ryan's dad passed away today. I am very sad for Ryan. He was very close to his dad. He would call him Chief. It was really sweet. Floyd, Ryan's dad, would call Sawyer Little Chief. He was a very sweet man and his kids adored him. When he passed, he was surrounded by family. That is the way to go. I want to be surrounded by my loved ones as well. I will go to the funeral. I had some fun memories with Floyd, too. He was a very special man.

Brett is working at our friend's the Murdock's. They own a plastic company that uses molds to form plastic parts for all kinds of things. The work is mind numbing. But since Brett is not working at BBW while they are renovating, he is working for $10 an hour doing this. I bought him Oreo's to help him feel better. He gets off tonight at 10:30pm. Robby is also working for them every week day from 6am-2pm. It's hard on Robby because he doesn't just stand around. He is constantly moving and working. They love him because they know he never stops and he does his best. I'm proud of that. I'm very blessed to have such a hard working husband.

Sunday

This weekend has been nice. Today especially. There was stake conference so we did not go. Not only that, we were exhausted. I literally slept all morning. I got up at 10:45 to eat and went back to bed until 1pm. Even then, I could have stayed in bed longer. I just felt guilty for staying in bed so long.

I had a code R last night from 7:30pm until 11:00pm. It was a 3 1/2 hour job and I made some good money. Robby always goes with me and hangs out and does his work. It's nice to have him there. I don't like being alone in the clinic. It kind of freaks me out. We had had a baby shower on Friday, so there was still cake and soda in the fridge.

I'm going to bed and will blog later. It was a nice, lazy Sunday today. My favorite.

I choose laughter...

By the end of the week, Friday is like I have walked through the desert and found an oasis. I love my job, but by Friday, I am TIRED! I am tired of hearing babies screaming from shots, hearing people whine about their pain and tired of the general drama that a lot of patients create. I know I've said this before, but I don't know how some people get to be as crazy as they are. I just kind of roll my eyes and tuck it away to tell my kids.

One guy came in today who had a kidney stone. He has worked in prisons for twenty odd years. He told me that for his Master's thesis, he had to interview criminals. He interviewed Ted Bundy. He also told me that it was a woman who flipped the switch on his execution. I believe in capitol punishment. I believe that if you have committed such heinous crimes as Ted Bundy did, you do not deserve to live and cost us money for your existence. Let Heavenly Father deal with you. And Heavenly Father will deal with you. As this patient was in pain, he kept trying to be funny at the same time. I told him, "You have two choices. You can either laugh or you can cry about pain." He told me he chose laughter. I agreed with him. I choose laughter, too.

We drove up to Logan last night and it was pretty intense. I got off work at 6pm. I normally would have been home by 5pm, except we had to admit a little nine month old for possible Kawasaki Disease. That was rough. When I got home, I had to sew on the straps for Rachelle's car seat cover. I was also in the thick of grounding Emeli. That's another story for another time. We got on the road at 7pm and got to Logan at 9pm. Usually I am laying out what I'm going to wear to work at 9pm. We visited with Rachelle for 45 minutes and then left to drive home. We got home at midnight. I do not do well with going to bed at midnight. I crashed into bed and slept until 6:30. Each time the alarm woke me up, I didn't recognize what it was. I was that tired. Robby didn't get to bed until 1am because he was calling Africa to let his step-mother and mother know about Liam, Rachelle's baby. He had to get up at 5:30 to work at our friend's, the Murdock's, plastics factory. He worked a 12 hour day. I worked 9 hours. We are too old to do that kind of thing. Right now Robby is sore everywhere and he is getting up in the morning to go work from 6am until 10am and then we are going to drive his routes. Tomorrow night and Sunday he is going to crash. I am on call all day tomorrow, so hopefully I don't get a call.

Monday

So I am on lortab while I am blogging, so I apologize beforehand.

Yesterday I made yummy oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. I love the recipe, so I'm going to use it again.

I worked today all day and I have Tuesday off. I love my job. I'll blog more tomorrow.

whew...weekend is here :D

So yesterday I won movie tickets at work. They announced it in the morning and I was completely shocked. They did a report on our residents to see who is making sure their pediatric patients are getting their immunizations. Three residents got above 90%. They were asked which nurse helped them with that score. Dr. Smithson said I was the one who helped him with immunizations the most. I was very happily surprised. They are going to give me a certificate and take a picture of me and the doctor. Blah. No picture, please.

So Robby and I went to the mall, split a yummy Japanese dinner of teriyaki chicken and moshi balls. I was still dressed in my scrubs and feeling very fashionable. We ended up seeing "This Means War". It was okay. A typical chick flick and it had action for Robby. But I'm not a chick flick person. I had been wearing my badge, but took it off because it makes my neck itch. I did not have my purse with me, so I sat on it to make sure I wouldn't forget it. Sure enough, I forgot it. I got down to the bottom of the stairs in the theater and realized what I had done. I turned around and started to dash up the stairs. You don't dash in Crocs. I tripped and fell down in slow motion. I landed with my left shin right on the edge of one of the stairs and felt like a huge idiot. There was a man in his seat still who saw me fall, got up and tried to see how I was doing. I brushed him off because I was so mortified. It was really painful.

Robby started teasing me because he could sense that I was hurt and upset. I snapped at him a couple of times, which made him tease me more. He's so much like me, it's kind of maddening at times. :D This was one of those times.

I got home and looked at my leg. It was all swollen. I sat down with my feet up and put ice on it. It's feeling better today, but it hurt like a mother last night. I hate being older and not able to catch myself when I fall. It really sucks.

It's supposed to snow tonight and tomorrow. Blah.

Right now Robby and I are on opposite sides of the couch with our feet in the center, almost in each others' laps. He is on my iPad playing a word game and I am blogging and listening to Spotify. Emeli is at Francesca's and Brett is at Brian and Jack's. We have the house to ourselves and it is so quiet and nice. After driving around in the car all day, it feels good to just come home and crash on the couch.

Lately, I have been so tired when I come home from work. My hips hurt and I just want to go to bed. See, I'm getting old. How depressing.

Last night Emeli went to a birthday party. One of the girls there was alone with Emeli and Emeli was doing her hair (coincidentally, her name is Sarah). Sarah and Emeli start talking about homosexuality. Emeli told Sarah that she loves gay people. Sarah admitted that she is bi-sexual. Then Emeli felt like Sarah was getting a little close to Emeli and it freaked Emeli out. So this morning, when Emeli told me this, I gave her some motherly advise.

1--if you tell someone you love gay people, you can't get creeped out by one of them trying to become better friends to see if you are interested in them. If you love gay people, you love ALL gay people. I asked Emeli how many gay people she knows. She sheepishly told me that she knows Brett and a friend I used to work with at Bath and Body Works who was gay, but not ready to admit it. I told her that was not enough people to base her opinions on.

2--I told Emeli that I have had many gay male friends. I loved them all because they were the most fun people and we had great times together. However, lesbians give me the creeps at times. I try not to feel that way, but I can't help it. It's not that I hate them, I have had a few lesbians make passes at me or check me out. I appreciate that about as much as I appreciate old men who come into the clinic and make passes at me and flirt with me, too. It's just that I don't go that way and I don't really like it when they get into my personal space. I also admitted that I don't appreciate heterosexual men who come across all macho and think they are all that, too, and expect me to treat them special. Not going to happen.

Anyway, I told Emeli that she needs to sit and think about how she feels about that kind of thing. She can't make big blanket statements about things unless she can back it up. Interestingly enough, Brett had made the same point to her when he picked her up from the party and she talked to him about it.

wow...

It has been a few days since I blogged and I promised every day. I keep meaning to do it and then life happens. Not that it's been particularly busy, but I keep forgetting. Old age is creeping up on me.

I have worked a lot this week and it always sucks after having an easy week the week before. Today I got to see a patient with a Hello Kitty tattoo on her crotch. It actually said Hello Kitty, too, which I thought was pretty crude. She also had full sleeves and tattoos all across her chest. She had a post on either side of her bottom lip. She was being seen for a possible miscarriage. She has other children at home. I know I sound like a judgmental wench right now, but here goes. I am sad that she is 22 years old and already has children and she looks like that. She looks like a whore. She apologized to the doctor for her crotch tattoo. In my opinion, if you are going to get a tattoo on your crotch, do not apologize for it when a doctor sees it. You put it there. Apologizing for it means you think it's wrong and if you think it's wrong, why did you do it in the first place? Okay, I'm done.

I'm tired and will post better tomorrow. Sorry to be so flighty on posting this week.
